'Designer Look' Comes Easily with a Single-Color Decorating Theme (WMS) - According to design experts, one easy, foolproof way to give a room a polished look is to stick with a simple one-color decorating theme. Far from dull, a monochromatic palette can add a whole new range of decorating possibilities. Pictured here, for example, is a room tied together with green tone-on-tone wallpaper, green gingham fabric on the pillows and bed skirt, and hints of green in the decorative antique plates on the wall. The white furniture, woodwork, and bedding are enhanced beautifully by "Zara", from Thibaut Wallcovering's "Tone-on-Tone Resource" collection. An exciting alternative to paint, the tone-on-tone design offers visual interest with subtle color and pattern while bringing unity to everything in the room. A similar look could be achieved with other color pairings such as blue and white, or even cream and red, ivory and gold, etc. Solid-color bedding is readily available at stores, and garage-sale furniture can easily be painted to match your theme -- and your budget. Here are a few more tips for using a one-color theme:
Anyone can be successful at obtaining a designer look if they follow these ideas in creating a one-color theme. Moreover, using tone-on-tone wallpaper is easy as it coordinates readily with bolder, more colorful patterns that may be found in other areas of the home.
